Who knew food was the source of evil?
Ok, the source of evil may be a bit extreme... and it's not really the food, but the stuff that's in the food. We are trying a whole new approach to managing Dylan's bipolar disorder. We're not going all radical and throwing out the meds, but we are altering every bite that goes in his mouth. His dad's side of the family has a severe MSG intolerance and Dylan has always shared some of the same symptoms, but it was the last trip to the psychiatrist that really changed things for us. Apparently one of the foremost triggers for depression, mood swings and rage issues can be linked to MSG and all of it's glutamate derivatives. The list of no-no ingredients is coming up to three pages long. If you buy it in a grocery store, it's likely to be on "the list". And, it's not just the ingredients, it also involves the process of cooking. Shampoos, toothpaste, soap, detergents, etc are all effected. I have been spending hours researching, reading and trying to learn the basics, as well as combing through books and websites looking for ways to make things with ingredients and processes that are deemed "safe". After everything I've read now, I'll have no choice but to lose weight! The three peas are going to be so toxin free we'll be different people! I'm hoping for a new body, I'm hoping Dylan gets a new outlook on life and maybe, just maybe, Brendan's attitude will seep out of him along with the toxins. I can dream, right?
