I was reading another blog and she had posted “Thirty One Questions to start the New Year”, that she had taken from the website of Donald S Whitney. I checked out his website and he had a great suggestion for the questions – to answer one a day for a month. That is going to be my January blogging goal. So to start things off, here is the first question…
What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
Now, let me just point out that these questions are not all easy peasy nice ‘n breezy. They require depth, thoughts, some pontificating even. Or I could say the first thing that comes to mind. For example…. I could pray while I’m eating, instead of when I’m working out. Praying while working out tends to lead to a lot of short, frustrated prayers, where as prayer over some mashed potatoes and gravy would have me asking for a lot less and thanking Him a lot more. However, I don’t think that’s what Donald S. Whitney had in mind.
Hmmmm… I think one thing I could do to increase my enjoyment of God would be to give more – more money, more time, more talents, more prayers – just more. I have been doing a lot of receiving lately and it has only served to remind me how many ways there are to give to God. I want to give back to God in an extravagant fashion. The kind of giving that throws caution to the wind and requires some faith. The kind of giving that is transformational in someone’s life. The kind of giving that no one needs to know about except me and God. I want to feel God smiling every time it happens. I want it to become second nature. If I can do that – if I can view everything I have as God’s – I will definitely enjoy God more this year.
