I got this book for Christmas...
It has 1000 ultimate travel experiences inside and it makes for some amazing reading. It has been fun to go through and see how many of them I have already done and it's equally fun to dream about the ones I want to do. Travel experience #238 is about the Ancient Theatre Aspendos in Turkey. I had forgotten about being there until I read the description. Here is a picture of it...
I went there twice while we lived in Turkey - once to see the opera La Traviata and once to see a dance show called The Fire of Anatolia. It is unbelievable to sit in this theatre with 15,000 people. You arrive in the late afternoon and the rest of the night is an amazing experience. Wine, olives and bread are all passed around freely, the marble that you're sitting on is warm from the sun beating down on it all day and the views are spectacular. By the time the night is over you have made a bunch of new friends and the cool thing is, you really meet up with those people again! If you ever get to Turkey, travel experience #238 is worth your time.
