I've changed my mind, St. John's is my new favourite!

Yes, we survived the "hurricane" and managed to escape Gros Morne National park with our lives (it really wasn't that bad). We left for our long drive across Newfoundland, headed for St. John's, at about 9:30am and we arrived around 5:00pm. The highlight of the drive was stopping for gas and having the most amazing french fries at a "mobile" french fry bus. Dylan finally had the poutine he was looking for and I had something called an "onion mess" (picture home made fries, sauteed onions, stuffing, cheese and gravy) - unbelievable!
We found our way to Noreen and Glen's house (my friend, Louise's sister) and they had prepared a full turkey dinner for our arrival. I think it's called a "Jigg's supper" over here - even though we all speak English, there is a whole new vocabulary to learn in Newfoundland and the accent is killing me! Noreen had stocked the house with treats for the boys and they both love Glen. Over supper, Glen was telling the boys all about the cabin and how it would be so much fun to take them up there and go out on the quads, do some fishing and boating, sit in the hot tub, build big fires and cook up some cod tongues (yes, you read that right). Well, after a check of the forecast, it was decided we would indeed head up to the cabin on Saturday night, sleep over and spend all Sunday playing.
On Saturday, the boys and I headed in to St. John's to see the city, go to the GeoCenter, Cabot tower and see the Tattoo at Signal Hill. It was a busy day, but we all had a great time. We love this city! We all chose some souvenirs and really had a great time just wandering around. It's very colourful, musical, laid back and happy. I could live here :) It's kind of like a big Granville Island, with nicer people and different scenery. And, I saw my first iceberg - very cool!
We got home late in the afternoon and packed up to head out to the cabin by 6:00pm.

The cabin is more like another big house, that sits on a lake, in a remote part of the country, with every luxury and toy known to man kind. The boys (ok, me too) never wanted to leave. In fact, they want Glen and Noreen to be their new Aunt and Uncle, who they can visit each summer! In our evening we had a big steak bbq, played some darts, built a fire, shot off some fireworks, had a hot tub, toasted marshmallows, ate cake and watched some Indiana Jones. It was midnight before the boys saw a pillow. We did sleep in this morning until about 9:30am and then it was up and getting ready to head out on the quads. Glen took Brendan on the back of his, I had a quick driving lesson and took Dylan with me. We had soooooooo much fun! We drove all over the back roads, through some great water, mud, etc. and the only people we ever saw were tree planters. We were out for a good couple of hours and both boys got a turn to drive for a bit. I think I could do that all day! (there will be some great pictures once we get back home!) If there wasn't a kid behind me we could have had some serious fun! We made our way back to the cabin, covered in mud and tired. Well, I thought we were tired, but apparently that was just me - the boys bounded off the bikes and were ready for some fishing. I, however, had a hot tub.
There was also a big lunch to have - the boys worked up quite the appetite sitting on the back of quads! They each packed away a burger, a smokie, chicken strips, fries and cookies (it was a tad embarrassing). Fishing led to more hot tubbing, and then to boating for even more fishing. Dylan caught a fish and was then quite upset when the hook had gone so far down his throat that the little guy couldn't be saved. Brendan, on the other hand, got to learn how to chop off the head, slice her open and pull out the guts. (he is having fish for breakfast) We said goodbye to the cabin at about 6:00pm and made our way back home. The boys are in bed and we are ready for another big day tomorrow. We are taking a boat trip to see some icebergs, up close and personal, go to an ecological reserve to hang out with the puffins and hopefully find some whales. I think we are going to try and get to Cape Spear in the afternoon. There is also another Indiana Jones movie to watch before we catch the newest one in the theater on Tuesday night.
I can't believe on Wednesday we leave for the long drive back across the Island to catch the overnight ferry, and then it's on to Moncton for our last stop in our cross Canada adventure.
