Here is question #4...
In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
Now, many of you probably THINK you know which one I would pick.... it's fasting, right? It makes perfect sense. I could improve my spiritual disciplines and continue on with my weight loss goals. But, upon further investigation, fasting and losing weight don't actually go together.
Anyways, the discipline that I want to learn more about and cultivate in my own life is the discipline of SIMPLICITY. There is a verse in the back of my head that talks about God having made man as simple creatures and that the complexities are of our own devising. (I think it might be in Ecclesiastes - I'll look for it and get back to you.) Part 2 of the question asks what am I going to do about it? Well, I'm going to start with reading the chapter in Richard Foster's book The Celebration of Discipline and then I'll get back to you with the rest of the plan. This question ties in with question #3 as well, so I will include my step of cleaning and organizing my home as progress towards working on the discipline of SIMPLICITY.
"Superficiality is the curse of our age…. The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people."-Richard Foster, "Celebration of Discipline"
[I think that tomorrow needs a good, funny story blogged about. These questions are quite serious and we need to lighten things up on here again!]
