Do you have a bucket list?

I was reading a blog that I check out frequently and she directed her readers to her son's blog where he has made a list of 100 things to do before he dies (aka a bucket list). It was a funny list to read and you can clearly tell the writer is young and male. It did get me thinking about my own list though. I made a list of "40 things to do by 40" about 5 years ago (I'll be 38 in January). I wrote out my things and put it up on my closet door. I think there are only two things left on the list to accomplish - adopt/foster more children and get my Master's degree. So, either I made my list too easy and boring or I was really dedicated to checking things off. I think it was probably a mixture of both. Anyways, the point is, I need a new list. My last list was quite practical, with some adventure thrown in. I want the new list to be full of goals that will take some effort to accomplish - I want to live outside of my comfort zone. Maybe I'll include getting rid of a dead rat! So stay tuned, I'll post the list when I'm finished figuring it out.

Today was a really nice day off. I had my friend Cheryl over for lunch (very impromptu) and after I called to invite her I realized I didn't really have any food in the house. I trekked out to the freezer and found a couple of bags of cut up vegetables from the summer, so in to a pot of vegetable broth (also homemade and frozen in the summer) they went and we had a thick, creamy zucchini soup. Then I got all Martha Stewarty and made scones in the shape of mittens! Thanks goodness for big freezers, summer vegetables and planning ahead.
Dylan worked on some Christmas stuff - we're doing a Christmas unit for all of December and I was trying to incorporate some Social Studies in to it all, so we're building an Eco friendly gingerbread house. He has to learn about sustainability and renewable resources so he's researching ways to use the things we have and then figuring out how to make it with candy, icing or gingerbread. Hopefully we will finish in time to enter a contest in two weeks. He came up with a pretty good list and he has some creative ideas on how to make the stuff. I promise I will post pictures when we're done.
I'm off to make waffles for dinner...
