Brendan's on the blog again...
Hi everybody, this is Brendan to tell you about our times in Ottawa. We stayed with my mom's friend's friend, named Catherine, in their gigantic house with it's own lake. One of the things we did was visit the Museum of Civilization - the first thing we did there was watch an IMAX about SeaMonsters of the Deep. That took about 40 mins and Dylan hated it. After that we went to the Children's section of the museum and in there we rode a motorcycle, loaded and unloaded cargo on to a freight ship with a crane, sat in a Mini and rode on a replica bus from Pakistan. We went to the Canada Hall in the museum and the First Peoples section. When we were done there we went back to the gigantic house for a bit of a break before we left to go to "Little Ray's Reptile Zoo". At the zoo we got to hold a tarantula named Rosie, a reticulated python and a bearded dragon. We also saw North America's largest snake (in captivity), a python, two huge crocodiles, a water monitor, and many other snakes, frogs, and reptiles. After we looked around at everything we watched a cobra eat a dead rat - it was very cool! Apparently, the way you buy dead rats is through a company on the internet that ships them to you all lined up in a box, just like chicken wings. The next day we went to Parliament Hill to meet our MP - John Cummins. He was very nice, he has three kids, lives in North Delta and lives in a hotel when he's in Ottawa. He's been an MP since 1993 - he likes his job. The thing he is most proud of doing while he has been an MP is taking a stand when everyone wanted him to vote a specific way. He didn't agree though and voted the way he felt was right. We also took a tour of Parliament Hill and saw the Parliamentary Library, stood in the Hall of Honour, climbed up the Peace Tower and walked through the Memorial Chapel. Finally we stood in line to see a Question Period in the House of Commons, but where we were told to stand was the wrong end of the line. After about 15 minutes of waiting, someone complained to a security guard that we cut in to the line and we were kicked to the "other" end of the line - a line that had severly grown! In the end, the galleries were all full and we could only get in for about 10 minutes. In the House of Commons, the people sounded like Dylan and I arguing on a bad day! They were yelling at each other and never waiting to hear what the other person said. We did manage to see Stephen Harper sitting in his seat. Overall, I really liked Ottawa.THE END
