Where do I start?

Well we've made it all the way to Saskatoon and we're leaving tonight for Winnipeg. I'm getting ahead of myself, though, so I'll start at the beginning...

We were off to a great start when we got to the Vancouver train station and were given priority boarding, along with a little spot to wait - with chairs and a view of the tracks - while everyone else had to stand in a long line. We got on the train and chose the best seat on the car - a set of four that were facing each other. After "conversation" as to who was sitting in which seat, we settled in for the first leg of our journey. I think we made it as far as the bridge that crosses under the Patullo bridge before I heard "I'm hungry". [An aside for mom and dad - I remembered riding on the train to Florida, when I was 3 and going over the same bridge.] The boys made fast friends with the train crew who controlled the food (the cook named Jim was the favourite!) and the only electrical outlet (this assured them a constant charge for the Gameboys and a full tummy at all times).

Dylan had offered to pay for dinner on the train, but was scared off by the prices, so he decided he would buy breakfast instead. We had an amazing dinner in the cafeteria car and Jim (the cook) liked the boys so much he passed out some free dessert!

The train ride was great (no major meltdowns, injuries or motion sickness) and sleeping was not as bad as many of you thought it would be. Dylan slept on the floor between our set of seats, Brendan slept on some empty seats behind us and I slept across our set of seats. During the daylight we played games, wandered around, ate, read, listened to music, talked to people and got off the train when we could (Jasper). Things of note that we saw were; a complete cow skeleton (we think it was hit by a train and then eaten), a bear up a tree, a herd of Mountain goats, Mt. Robson, Moose Lake (it might be bottomless!) and a town called "Viking".

We arrived in Saskatoon, right on time, at 12:45am. Our cab was waiting for us, the nice train man brought our packs right to the car, and we were off to check in to our Motel for the rest of the night.

Catch the next installment, "I want to go home - RIGHT NOW!", in the The 3 Peas' cross country adventure - being published soon...

Wow! I can't believe all of the interesting things you saw on your trip! Was it a black bear?

It sounds like you are pretty organized and things are going smoothly, which is fantastic!

Can't wait to hear the next update!

It was a black bear up the tree, but we also saw a brown bear, Brendan swears he saw a Grizzly and I'm pretty convinced I saw the footprints of a Sasquatch!

I was waiting for Terry to coment on this one but thought that since I'm on a roll I might as well go for it! Remember when you passed that little Prairie town of Viking...well we should have told you to say hello to Terry's birthplace on your way by. That's right...Terry was born right there... in the heart of Viking! ARR!ARR!
